Do you match counter tops with floor or cupboards?

I have peachy/cream patterned tile with a little taupe flooring and golden oak cupboards. I want to get Silestone or Granite and since it's expensive and I don't want to make a mistake, how do you pick? Do you match or make it pop...I am so confused on this.
